Curatorial Statement:
Forecast is proud to be an ongoing Creative Consultant to the Chroma Zone Festival. Located right in the heart of the CEZ neighborhood for over 25 years, Forecast Public Art brings deep knowledge of the area to our mission to advocate for public art that advances justice, health and human dignity. As a national organization, we are concerned that many mural festivals continue to lag behind in ensuring full representation of BIPOC, women and non-binary artists and see a part of our role with Chroma Zone to disrupt the mural festival status quo. As a consultant to the festival, we aim to build the capacity of the Creative Enterprise Zone to approach all public art with community context in mind and lead with fair and equitable treatment of creatives. We thoughtfully select and recommend artists for walls, events and educational opportunities through the lens of racial and gender equity. We seek artists who are connected to many of the socio-cultural issues facing our city and artistic communities in Minnesota. All selected artists are compensated for their work and we aim to recommend and select 80% local Minnesota artists to ensure that resources and talent are cultivated locally.

We recognize that our offices, this event and all murals are produced on Dakota land and we strive to build deeper relationships with indigenous artists and incorporate the visual culture of these nations and other indigenous nations in the festival. We believe that it is crucial to the cultural health of the City of St. Paul to foster a sense of belonging and create lasting and living visual evidence of the rich diversity of people creating and working in our capital city.

Few & Far

Women Refining the Art of the Streets

Few and Far is an assemblage of women who beautify the streets. In a shared commitment to creativity, education and social justice we draw, paint, skateboard and teach all over the globe.

Few and Far Logo

Street art is an international, visual language that ever evolves. A mural is a story and each artist takes her turn in the telling. Using our gifts as totem makers, Few and Far’s reflection of the world is fantastic and distinctly feminine. By engaging our community in our narrative, we seek to foster young imagination, to help the neighborhood’s next generation recognize and channel their creative impulses. This conversation between artists and communities is an ongoing, global project to heal and bring together all peoples.

Few and Far welcomes every opportunity to enliven another village, to reinvent another street corner, to partner with organizations in the common aim of social betterment. While all of these women pursue their individual expressions, they have all uniquely benefited from the experience of working together and are dedicated contributors to the global project of women in art.
